Et si finalement la 101 ème n'était pas la plus importante place de ce classement personnel car a peine ce top 100 bouclé et  ce sommaire etabli que les interrogations et les conflits intérieurs se mettent en place

Comment n'ais je pu caser 'Mrs Robinson' (Simon and Garfunkel 1968)? Et 'Hotel California '(the Eagles  1976) ou encore ' G.L.O.R.I.A' de Them (1964) .Je m étais promis de placer 'because the night '(Patti Smith 1978) ' Ghostrider ' (Suicide 1977) ' crazy ' (Gnarls barkley 2006) ou 'Bela Lugosi 's dead '(Bauhaus  1979)

Un seul Titre des Doors et de Springsteen ,pareil pour le Floyd, ou Neil Young , rien de Steely Dan , Rien non plus des White Stripes ou de Michael Jackson ou encore des Temptations .On pourrait a l'infini débattre des manquants , des oubliés , des absents et quand ils  sont bien la pourquoi telle chanson et pas une autre?

Pourquoi 'sympathy for the devil et pas 'midnight rambler ' ou miss you '  pour les Stones ?

Pourquoi 'streets of Philadelphia' et pas 'born to run' pour le boss?

Pourquoi ' sometimes it snows in april 'et pas 'sign O the times' pour Prince ? 

La  101 ème place est donc la votre  a vous  d'y caser le titre ,la chanson indispensable qui selon vous devrait figurer a tout prix dans ce top 100.

The Animals - the house of the rising sun

 

C'est une chanson que la planète entière connait ,elle fait partie des grands classiques du repertoire folk américain (on la date de 1928) Si les premiers enregistrements connus (Leadbelly , Judy Collins ou Nina Simone ) sont formidables ce sont bien The Animals sous la conduite du génial Eric Burdon qui vont populariser  'the house of the rising sun' en 1964 

En france la chanson sera adaptée par marie lafôret et par Johnny Hallyday qui la rebaptise 'les portes du pénitencier ' Rapellons que l'original parlait d'un 'rising sun.'mot  utilisé generalement pour qualifier une maison close ou un bordel on comprend mieux ainsi le changement de type d'habitation pour l'adaptation française des années 60

Malgré de nombreuses pointures qui se seront attaquée a ce classique du rythm ' n ' blues (Dylan ,Woody Guthrie, Joan baez, The Platters, Tim hardin) la version  fantastiqyue des Animals surpasse tout , elle reste l'un des plus fabuleux témoignages musical de ce qu'on appelait a l'époque le "british blues boom"

C'est l'ultime titre du plus celebre de tout les albums , celui dont tout le monde s'accorde a dire qu'il a changé la donne , qu'il a tout révolutioné. Extrait donc du mythique 'Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band '  A Day in the life est le titre qui , selon moi résume parfaitement l'alchimie et le génie de deux artistes hors du commun qui vont ensemble (puis séparement) marquer leur époque

En effet c'est deux chansons distinctes l'une proposée par John Lennon  l'autre par Paul Mc Cartney qui va aboutir a ce résultat  absolument merveilleux

La chanson commence avec le bruit de la foule provenant de la chanson précédente, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band (Reprise) puis la chanson débute l par une phrase  de Lennon : « I read the news today, oh boy... »

Le deuxième couplet sera matière a diverses interprétations en effet ,il évoque un homme qui « s’explose le crâne en voiture » (« he blew his mind out in a car ») Ce couplet alimenta beaucoup la rumeur lancée en 1969 sur la mort de Paul McCartney, selon laquelle il aurait perdu la vie dans un accident de voiture ,une affaire que les médias baptisérent l'affaire P.I.D (Paul is dead)

Mais au dela toutes les polémiques suscitées par ce titre  il reste une merveille de chanson complexe et simple a la fois , un chef d'oeuvre incontestable  , portée par un orchestre de quarante musiciens et supervisée par Georges Martin , producteur définitivement génial , la chanson enregistrée dans les studios Abbey Road et réussit l'incroyable harmonie de la musique symphonique, de la pop psychédélique .C'est bien une page d'histoire que les FAB four ont écrites a l'hiver 1967 et 'a day in the life ' reste pour toujours  l'un des symboles de leur génie

.La chanson  apparaît sur de nombreuses classements  de « meilleures chansons » . Elle figure à la première place du classement de Q Magazine des « 50 plus grandes chansons britanniques de tous les temps » et  a la première place des « 101 plus grandes chansons des Beatles » pour Mojo Magazine

Enfin rapellons que dans l’ouvrage From Craft to Art : Formal Structure in the Music of the Beatles de John Covach, 'A day in the life '  est également considéré comme « le morceau le plus important de l’histoire du rock.

Top 100 100/02 - I' ve got you under my skin (Frank Sinatra 1956)

 

frank Sinatra - I've got  you under my skin

 

 

Sinatra comme une évidence dans ce top 100 car il est a mon sens  , la perfection absolue en matière d'artiste interprète. Parmi les trésors de sa discographie ma préférence  va a  'I' ve got you under my skin' une  chanson écrite en 1936 par Cole Porter

C'est dans la grande période  'capitol ' de sa prolifique carrière que  Sinatra enregistre ce titre  que  l'on trouvera sur  'songs for swigin '  lovers'  l'un de ses plus fameux albums.

Comme sur des dizaines d'autres standards que ' the Voice ' va immortaliser on retrouve tout ce qui a construit la légende  de cet artiste hors du commun , la voix, le swing, la classe etourdissante,l'aisance ,le rythme , l'etonnante facilité de son interprétation

Indémodable,indépassable, intemporel

Bien entendu toute une pleiade d'artistes et de groupe on repris ce standard de Cole Porter , et si  bien évidemment aucun ne rivalise avec la version solaire de Sinatra on peut mentionner quelques  'covers' etonnantes ' comme celles de Neneh Cherry , Dinah Washington, Helen Merill ou encore l'envoûtante Diana Krall

Mentionnant aussi l'improbable mais néammoins intéréssant duo Sinatra -Bono paru sur 'duets' l'album de duos enregistré par le maitre en  1993
