Top 100 - 100/09 Once in a Lifetime (The Talking Heads 1980)

 

 

Il y a dans ce titre fantastique des Talking Heads  de si nombreuses influences que l'ensemble en devient étourdissant , c'est pour moi le sommet de la collaboration entre David Byrne ; LA tête pensante du groupe et l'un des génies incontournables de la musique  moderne Brian Eno

Comme il avait su le faire par le passé (notamment avec Bowie) Eno apporte ici  son univers unique dans la new wave du groupe de New -York ; dans ce 'once in a lifetime 'les influences surgissent de tout les horizons ,urbaines (Television , Velvet underground) africaines (Fela Kuti), funky (James Brown) ce titre se pose en  véitable ambassadeur d'un album qui va devenir  mythique ( 'Remain in  light) un disque inouï qui va ,a l'aube des années 80  considérablement  influencer  les courants post-punk, world music et new  wave et qui sera le plus grand disque proposé par le groupe de  David Byrne

Selon Ken Tucker du magazine Rolling Stone once in a lifetime démontre  qu'au final il n'  existe qu'un écart infime  ' entre ce qu'écoutent les noirs et les blancs '.L'étroite collaboration entre  Byrne et Eno se poursuivra autour d'un album hors normes et totalement novateur quelques mois plus tard  avec la sortie (octobre 1981) du  concept album,' My Life in the Bush of Ghosts,' un album époustouflant dans lequel le duo mélange musique pop, musique ethnique et collages et développant une technique  alors naissante le 'sampling '

Chef d'oeuvre pop electro Once in a lifetime ( porté par un vidéo-clip hallucinnt et inoubliable) va définir  parfaitement une certaine forme de musique que l'on pourra qualifier de 'postmoderne' et qui annonce le virage musical des anées 80,un tournant artistique  qui saura a la fois s'inspirer des courants musicaux passés (rock, punk) tout en proposant de nouveaux sons et  de nouvelles tonalités.
